Guard Rail Configuration Tool

Amazon RME — AMM Internship | Summer 2026 — HTML/JavaScript Web App

Overview

An interactive browser-based calculator that lets maintenance teams configure a custom guard rail assembly for any conveyor location. The technician enters three field measurements and the tool automatically generates the full panel layout, drill guide, bill of materials, structural analysis, and downloadable 3D-printable STL files — no engineering background required.

This tool was built to enable facility-wide rollout of the guard rail system without needing an engineer involved in every installation. It turns a multi-hour design and calculation process into a few minutes of data entry.

Opens the actual tool in a new tab — try entering measurements and hit Calculate.

The Interface

The technician enters three field measurements — height difference, distance from the mounting hole to the conveyor edge, and total guard rail length. Everything else defaults to standard values but can be adjusted for special cases.

Automated Output

Hitting Calculate instantly generates a complete build package:

Panel layout and bolt spacing output
Panel layout — bolt counts, spacing, and positions per panel
Materials list and cost estimate output
Bill of materials with live cost estimate
Structural deflection and load analysis output with factor of safety
Structural analysis — deflection, bolt stress, and FOS for every component
Measurements and positioning output with STL download buttons
Positioning validation with downloadable spacer & bracket STLs
Shop sheet with cut list and per-panel drill guide

Visual Diagrams

The tool renders scaled front and top-down diagrams so the technician can visually confirm the layout matches the target location before cutting anything.
